Kafei is cursed from the start of the game. Basically, he was turned into a child by the strange imp wearing a mask, the Skull Kid. He wears the Keaton mask to hide his face. In the manga, it is said he is in hiding due to his appearance. But in the game, he says he is not hiding because of that, but because he lost the Sun Mask and he promised Anju that he would bring it.
Some neat little trivia, Kafei and Anju's quest is the longest in the game, spanning over the entire three days. By doing his and Anju's quest, you earn four masks. The Keaton mask, the Kafei Mask, the Postman's Hat, and the Couples mask.
At the end of the game, it shows a wedding sequence with Anju. In the manga, it does show Kafei as an adult, but it does not show his face. We do not know if the curse was broken in the game, but the view that is given is not at a child's perspective.
He is related to the
Mayor Dotour (Father) and
Madame Aroma (Mother).
Kafei has purple-blue hair. He has red eyes and pale skin. We never see his ears, so it is not known if he has pointed ones or not, but we can assume he does.
